Brooklyn – Federation Foreshore Walk & The Anglers Rest Hotel

Off into Brooklyn on the Hawkesbury River, a quick bite at The Anglers Rest Hotel (a very old pub, been here for ages). Down by the water, so of course, must have seafood, was very good. Now a walk along the Federation Foreshore Walk around Flat Rock Point and up to the Lookout.

The Entrance North – The Sensory Garden

Have been out and about, dropped into The Sensory Garden and Pelicans Wharf (near the boat ramp), at The Entrance North – cloudy but the sun is shimmering beautifully on Tuggerah Lake. Some black swans decided to paddle by, all nicely in a row. There are viewing platforms along the shores of Tuggerah Lake, at the Garden, so you can sit and take in the view.

Swansea Heads – Reids Reserve

A perfect day, so heading north to Reids Reserve, at Swansea Heads. Walked around the headland, over the rock shelf, so many rock pools, and the water is so clear, just lovely.

Hornsby Heights – Crosslands Reserve

A day’s outing south of the Central Coast, to Hornsby Heights and Crosslands Reserve in the Berowra Valley National Park – a sand-bottomed stretch of river on Berowra Creek, on the upper reaches of the Hawkesbury River inlet, with picnic tables and seats, covered shelters, BBQs and a boardwalk along the creek.

At the northern end of the reserve was a swampy area, not exactly the prettiest, but unusual colours in the water.

Also at the northern end of the Reserve, is a boardwalk along the creek – nice little walk.

Strahan – Sarah Island

Back on board The Lady Jane Franklin II (Gordon River Cruises) returning north along the Gordon River. Docked at Sarah lsland. Everybody off, broken into two groups for the Sarah Island tour, roughly an hour. Our tour guide was fantastic, so very interesting and very funny. Recognised the gentleman, Xavier, he was one of the cast from the play we saw in Strahan, “The Ship That Never Was”. Back on board to finish our journey back to Strahan. It has been a top day.

Strahan – Heritage Landing

The Lady Jane Franklin II (Gordon River Cruises) heading further down the Gordon River to Heritage Landing.  Everybody off the boat, tour guides lead us along a boardwalk, roughly an hour, with talks along the way about the rainforest etc. Quite dark in parts of the rainforest, then immensely bright where the sun has broken through.

Strahan – Peoples Park & Hogarth Falls

Went for a lovely walk through Peoples Park in Strahan, to the Hogarth Falls, which is fed by the Botanical Creek – the falls are not large, but they are very pretty.

Queenstown – Nelson Falls Track

Heading towards Nelson Falls, in the Princess River Conservation Area near Queenstown, one of the most beautiful rainforests we have seen on our Tassie travels, the Nelson Falls Track. And the fact that it’s raining, the colours seem so much richer and the trees and plants look wonderful drenched in the water. So many different colours and types of the fungi. The little river is the Nelson River. I never tire of Mother Nature’s incredible achievements. See also the Nelson Falls.

Lake St Clair

Goodbye Maydena – north, then west, to the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park to have a look at Lake St Clair (oddly enough in the suburb of Lake St Clair). Stopped in at their Visitor Centre, quite interesting with it’s hologram display of the thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger, now extinct). Some lunch (great soup) at the Lake St Clair Lodge,  and then a walk down to the lake. You guessed it, still raining. Don’t think we are seeing the Lake at it’s best. Across the Lake, way off in the distance, is an unusual looking building – it’s Pumphouse Point, two industrial buildings which have been transformed into a retreat.
