Somersby – Australian Reptile Park

The Australian Reptile Park, used to be located in the suburb of Wyoming, on the Central Coast, then in 1996 it relocated to Somersby. We have been meaning to go there for years, and have finally got there. Working our way through the reptile house, photos not too bad considering they are through glass (no flash of course), with only the lights and heating lamps as the light source.  Have to say the lizards, snakes, crocodiles kinda give me the heebie-jeebies (eeeek). The spider house interesting, you can watch them “milk” funnel-web spiders (one of our most poisonous spiders). Anything foreign to the spider makes it rear up, exposing it’s fangs. By using a device like a vaccum, they suck the poison off their fangs, which can be made into an anti-venom. Together with one of our other poisonous spiders, the Redback. Lots for the kids too – to the giant animated funnel-web spider, the interactive spider display (e.g. move the lever moves book on a shelf to display the spider hiding inside etc), to patting the kangaroos. It was a top day.
